T-Mobile U.S.A. GPRS/EDGE, ISDN, and WAP settings

T-Mobile GPRS settings (T-Mobile EDGE settings)
T-Mobile GPRS/EDGE settings for terminals (e.g., phone handsets). Some items are possibly Nokia-specific. I have found the authentication type can be either Secure or Normal. These settings should be useful for T-MobileWeb users.

T-Mobile GPRS/EDGE network settings when using a device as a GPRS "modem", that is, when "tethered" to another device. Examples include connection via Dial Up Networking (DUN) Bluetooth profile, or via Universal Serial Bus (USB). These settings should be useful for T-Mobile Internet users.

Users of T-Mobile's Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Internet option should substitute the following APN:

#225#: show current account balance and due date
*#06#: show handset International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number (may be Nokia-specific)
Apparently T-Mobile does not currently support Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) for secure WAP transactions.

Also Try -----------------------------------
Check your data plan. For this to work, you'll need the T-Mobile Total Internet Add On feature, a $29.99 per month option that gives you unlimited data access as well as unlimited T-Mobile Hotspot access. You likely already have this plan if you bought a recent smartphone from T-Mobile.

Create a new Dial-Up Modem connection. Similar to when setting up a Verizon modem, you need to create a new internet connection in Windows XP. Go to Control Panel -> Network Settings -> Network Connections -> Create a new Connection. You want to choose a manual setup for a dial-up modem. For T-Mobile, the dial-in number is *99#, with no name or password.

Add the right init string. You also need to enter a special "init string" in your modem's properties in Windows XP. This can be found under Control Panel -> Phones and Modem Options and choose the Modems tab. Select your modem with one click, go to Properties -> Advanced, and input the following in the Extra Initializations Commands box: at+cgdcont=1,"IP",[[APN]]

Note regarding the APN: There are some huge T-Mobile-related headaches around whether you're supposed to use internet2.voicestream.com, internet3.voicestream.com or wap.voicestream.com as the APN. Often people have to try all three until one works, so try each one out just to be sure.

N800 settings for Tmobile Internet
Anyway, here's what I did:

1. Pair the phone with the N800, making it a trusted device
2. Go to Control Panel > Connectivity > Connections > New
3. Click Next on the Connection Setup Welcome screen
4. Set the connection name you want, and Connetion type: GPRS, click Next
5. Access point name: wap.voicestream.com, Dial-up number: *99***1#, click Next
6. Click Advanced > Other
7. Supplementary AT commands: AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com", click OK
8. You should now be able to click the Connection icon in the status bar and click Change connection... to switch to your new connection

Note that some internet plans might require internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com as the APN in steps 5 and 6 above.

I will also try with my gf's Pearl 8100/Cingular later and post results.

Hope that helps! Please try it out and share your results here... Good Luck!

UPDATE: I am using Cingular's latest 8700 firmware: 4.2.1.96. Tmo is still at 4.1, which does not support DUN at all, so you probably have to upgrade to 4.2 to have a chance of getting all this to work.
